Most SEO returns come from the boring stuff Google can't ignore. Here's the exact audit order that consistently moves the needle — crawl first, then indexation, then Core Web Vitals and speed.

Phase 1 — Can Google see you?

1. Crawl & render

Run a full crawl and render. Look for 4xx, 5xx and redirect loops Google has to crawl through to reach your money pages.

2. Blocked resources

Confirm robots.txt and meta robots aren't blocking CSS, JS or images. A single disallowed stylesheet can break rendering signals.

Phase 2: Index what matters

3. Indexation audit

Diff what you care about vs. what's actually in the index. Either add a sitemap for it, or add noindex for pages you don't.

4. Duplicate & thin content

Consolidate duplicates and prune or enrich thin pages. Google only indexes a page you'd defend in a meeting.

5. Internal linking

Rebuild linking so your priority pages get the most internal equity. Siloed money pages always underperform.

Phase 3 — Speed & experience

6. Core Web Vitals

LCP under 2.5s, INP under 200ms, CLS under 0.1. Your real-user data matters.

7. Image & asset optimization

Serve next-gen formats with explicit dimensions and lazy-load below the fold.

8. Server response time

A crawlable site is fast first. If your TTFB is slow, nothing else gets you far.

9. Mobile & mobile usability

Test on a real phone. Fix tap targets, overflow and font sizes.

Phase 4 — Signals & trust

10. Schema markup

Validate structured data for products, articles, FAQ and breadcrumbs. It turns plain results into rich ones.

11. Backlinks & authority

Audit your link profile, remove penalties, and build authority toward your pillar pages.

12. Log & reporting

Set up tracking so you can see whether the fixes moved rankings before you move on.

Run these in this order — crawl first, then index, then speed. Fix what hurts the most before you add anything new.
